Education within TUCS
The education within TUCS is generally provided by the five participating departments. Most common exceptions are short courses and guest lectures that may be provided by the departments, or directly by TUCS.
Bachelor's level education
Up to the Bachelor's level the education is coordinated entirely by the Affiliate Departments.
Master's level education
TUCS hosts a number of Master programmes in information technology, in collaboration with University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University and Turun Ammattikorkeakoulu.
On the advanced level a common range of courses, seminars and short courses are offered. They are all taught in English unless otherwise is explicitly stated.
The TUCS cooperation between the departments, together with the cooperation agreements between the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University gives students at TUCS the possibility to participate in courses at all departments with some restrictions. If you are interested in participating in courses at another department than your own, please check the information on participating in courses.
Ph.D. level education
TUCS Graduate Programme (TUCS GP) is a national doctoral programme in computer science, hosted jointly by University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University. In its 17-year old existence, TUCS has already graduated over 150 PhD students. Many of them now hold positions in prestigious universities and in the industry all over the world. The TUCS Graduate Programme is a member in the FIGSIT – the Network of Finnish Doctoral Programmes in Information Technology offering various joint activities such as summer schools and short courses.
TUCS GP makes use of the advanced level courses that are also produced for the local Master's level students, especially towards a minor subject. This arrangement provides TUCS GP with a great plethora of courses of high quality. University or faculty level boundaries are almost invisible for students selecting and taking their courses.
The most significant part of the doctoral studies is carrying out research within one of the research groups in TUCS, both publishing articles and writing the doctoral thesis. TUCS GP puts great emphasis on it that students should publish actively in top level journals and proceedings of international conferences.
