Abstract:

A major advance in development of project
selection tools came with the application of
options reasoning to R&D. Our main concern
is how to deal with non-statistical imprecision
we encounter when judging or estimating
future cash
ows of R&D projects.
In this paper we develop a model for valuing
options on R&D projects, when future
cash
ows are estimated by trapezoidal fuzzy
numbers and the expected investment costs
are estimated by crisp numbers. We also
present a simple fuzzy 0-1 mathematical programming
model for R&D optimal portfolio
selection problem.
