Abstract:

The single machine problem of scheduling jobs using several wearing tools is studied. The lifetimes of the tools are stochastic and the capacity of the tool magazine is limited. The expected average completion time of the jobs is minimized by choosing the processing order and tool management decisions wisely. A genetic algorithm solving the problem heuristically is given for the problem.
