Abstract:

Digital hydraulics uses simple on/off-valves to produce different hydraulic functions cost effectively. Accurate flow control is possible by connecting several valves in parallel to form a digital flow control unit DFCU. In this study a digital flow control unit along with model based controller is used to produce a digital flow control valve. The work focuses on developing the control algorithm of the digital flow control valve. To fully utilize the potential of digital hydraulic systems in general, the control algorithms have become more sophisticated and complex. A similar development can also be seen in controllers that are used with more traditional hydraulic systems. A formal approach and design by contract methodology are used during the development of the controller to achieve better quality control code. The static and dynamic performance of the system is studied with experimental measurements.
