Abstract:

This article analyzes a currently emerging business where thousands of geographical
distributed software developers produce mobile software applications distributed via a reduced set
of mobile application stores tightly controlled by popular mobile device makers. We simply
compare from economical, marketing and information systems perspectives, how different the new
mobile applications software virtual market via centralized application stores differs from early
ones where distribution occurred via software developer's own Internet websites. What are the
implications of distributing software via “App Stores” over the traditional “websites” for mobile
software developers?
