Abstract:

This work presents cradle to grave life cycle assessment of printed electronics resources. In this work an attempt has been made to investigate and evaluate the life cycle assessment and environmental impacts of printed electronics resources such as polymer substrate-printed RFID antenna. Life cycle inventory analysis for these resources has been carried out to quantify total systems’ inputs and outputs that are relevant to the environmental impact especially emissions to air, fresh water, industrial soil and sea water. The major compositional components of these materials are studied with reference to emissions into the environment. The goal of this study is to quantify the environmental emissions in different life cycle stages such as raw materials preparation, production process and end of life cycle of the printed antenna. In order to facilitate analysis, the environmental evaluation of the printed technology has been carried out and compared with the conventional PCB technology. The key parameters for comparison includes the energy usage, hazardous emissions from raw materials preparations, production process to end-of-life and recyclability of new versus old technologies.
