TUCS Research Programmes – call for proposals
In an effort to create clearer research profile for TUCS and larger critical mass within TUCS, the board has decided to create a number of research programs, which will be awarded support from TUCS. The board has reserved a total of 40000€ of support for Research Programs.
The application process is the following:
- Proposals (free form, max length 2 A4 pages) for research programmes addressed to the TUCS director can be submitted by email to tucs@abo.fi before the deadline March 15th.
- The TUCS director will then together with the Board and the proposers negotiate a final version of the Research Programs.
Proposals should fulfill the following criteria. A research program should
- Have a defined research area and a research goal
- Consist of TUCS research units
- Have a defined leader who is responsible for reporting to TUCS directors
- Have a steering group that consists of senior researchers from participating research units
- The steering group can also have external members
- Have a defined activity plan and budget
- The budget should quantify support requested from TUCS and other funding.
- Activities include:
- organize in the Turku area at least one scientific workshop per year in their area
- organize a seminar series in their area, running at least once a month
- seminar events that have the form of a short course are eligible for short course support from TUCS, however such funding should be explicitly applied for in the activity plan and budget.
- Participate in the organisation of the Frontiers of IT lecture series planned to start in fall 2012.
A research program can have external (non-TUCS) affiliate partners. Such partners can participate on equal basis in research program activities; however they have to cover their own costs.
TUCS Study Report 2012
The yearly TUCS Study Report round will be organised again this spring. The system will be open for the students during 1.-29.2.2012 to fill in their reports. The supervisors will fill in their statements during 1.-9.3. After which the Graduate Programme Committee will give their recommendation and the TUCS Board will make the final decision on the continuation of status of the TUCS PhD students.
